The Hard Part was the Double-Layer Tear-Off
Before we could install a modern, watertight TPO roofing system, we had to address what was currently on the building. Upon inspection, the Pomp’s Tire building was carrying the weight and hidden issues of two failing roof systems. The top layer was an aging EPDM rubber roof, which had been installed directly over an even older “hot roof” (a traditional built-up asphalt system).
To ensure the structural integrity of the building and the longevity of the new installation, a complete tear-off was required. The Englund Roofing crew safely and efficiently stripped all 40,000 square feet of old roofing material completely down to the structural roof deck. Exposing the bare deck allows us to inspect for any hidden damage and guarantees a clean, stable foundation for the new system.
Our Roofing Solution: Energy Efficiency and RhinoBond Technology
With a clean deck prepared, our team began the installation of a high-performance TPO RhinoBond commercial roofing system designed for maximum durability and thermal efficiency.
- R-30 Insulation Upgrade: Commercial buildings lose a massive amount of heat through poorly insulated roofs. To ensure maximum energy efficiency, we installed two new layers of rigid roof insulation, bringing the building’s thermal resistance up to a strict R-30 rating. This upgrade will help regulate the building’s temperature, reducing heating and cooling costs year-round.
- 60-Mil TPO RhinoBond System: For the membrane, we selected a premium 60-mil TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin). Rather than using traditional mechanical fasteners that penetrate the membrane itself, we utilized the cutting-edge RhinoBond induction welding system. This technology uses electromagnetic induction to weld the TPO membrane directly to specially coated fastening plates underneath it. The result is a seamless, puncture-free surface with incredibly high wind-uplift resistance.
